This young woman had a substantial amount of excess fat and loose muscle tissue in her lower abdomen. She was very self conscious about her "pot belly" and it caused her to limit her clothing options. During her consultation, her surgeon talked about both liposuction and tummy tuck (abdominoplaty), two body contouring procedures commonly used to reshape the midsection. Liposuction would be needed to remove the excess fat that stubbornly clung to her belly, while a tummy tuck would trim and tighten the abdominal muscles that had begun to sag.

Because this patient needed improvement primarily in her lower abdominal area, her surgeon recommended a "mini" tummy tuck. The mini version of this procedure uses a smaller incision and does not require relocation of the belly button.
