Mommy makeover surgery can slim and sculpt many areas of the body, all in a single procedure. However, many of our patients ask the same question during consultations: Is combining treatments actually safe? This concern is understandable, and we take patient health very seriously in our practice.
The short answer is yes, mommy makeover surgery is safe. But there are a few things you should know about this unique surgery when deciding what’s right for you.
Pros
From a tummy tuck to breast augmentation, Atlanta women can include many different treatments in their mommy makeovers. Here are a few perks and considerations when choosing this type of surgery.
- Customization: Each mommy makeover procedure is personalized to your particular needs. You get to choose which procedures are included.
- Saving money: Any time you undergo surgery, there are certain “behind the scenes” fees patients pay. Operating room and anesthesiology fees are common, for example. When you bundle treatments together during a mommy makeover, you only have to pay those unique operation fees once rather than multiple times for separate surgeries.
- Quicker recovery: Recovery can be one of the most daunting parts of your plastic surgery journey. With a mommy makeover, you have only one operation and recovery period. This is often more efficient than spacing out smaller surgeries and waiting to heal between each one.
- Fewer appointments: When you’re undergoing a single surgery, you only have to go through the process once. The number of consultations and post-op meetings is far fewer, and you spend less time in the surgeon’s office.
Cons
Most women will find that they can include their chosen treatments as part of their mommy makeover plan. However, there is an upper limit to how long patients can safely stay under anesthesia. The risk of complications rises the longer you’re in the operating room, so most surgeons suggest that a single surgery last no longer than 6 hours total.
If you want to undergo more procedures than can fit in this time period, you may need to space your procedures out. In these cases, we suggest that patients wait until they are completely healed from their first round of surgeries before adding a secondary operation.
